The VICTOR CHANG FOUNDATION was created by Dr Victor Chang himself in 1984 and his family now continues his work and honours his vision through this Foundation.

His wish was to fund grants in the two areas that he had a deep connection with; EDUCATION: sharing knowledge & skills in cardiothoracic surgery between Australia and Asia, particularly in the area of heart transplantation, and INNOVATION: such as the development of an artificial heart and mechanical assist devices.

Since its inception, the Foundation has distributed more than AUD$1 million in grants to train over 200 surgeons from Asia. The Victor Chang Foundation remains his one true legacy.

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute has been Australia’s home of heart research since it was opened by Her Royal Highness, Diana, Princess of Wales, over 20 years ago.
